    What’s the secret to implementing the best course of action so the problem is solved effectively?

    The language should be simple, at a grade five reading level, ensuring the message is easy to understand but still powerful enough to make an impact.

    Now, as Eugene Schwartz, let’s get started! First, ask me what are the problems.”

    Then, I shared my eight biggest problems, and here’s what they replied.

    Which of these challenges weighs heaviest on your mind right now? Which one feels like the biggest obstacle? All of the above, you say? A common refrain. It’s like a symphony of struggles, each instrument playing its part in the overall discord. But even a discordant symphony can be rearranged, harmonized, turned into a masterpiece. Let’s start with a broad stroke, a foundation upon which we can build. Let’s talk about the core of it all: understanding what’s really at stake.

    Most people look at these problems as isolated incidents. “I’m overwhelmed.” “I’m not seeing results.” “I’m afraid.” They treat the symptoms, not the disease. They’re putting bandages on gaping wounds. What we need is surgery, a deep dive into the underlying causes.

    Take “information overload,” for example. Is it really about too much information? Or is it about a lack of direction? A lack of clarity about what you actually need to know? You’re drowning not because of the water, but because you don’t know how to swim. We need to teach you how to swim.

    Or consider “lack of results.” Is it truly a lack of results, or a lack of measuring the right results? Are you tracking the right metrics? Are you even tracking anything at all? You can’t hit a target you can’t see. We need to define the target.

    And what about “procrastination”? Is it laziness? Lack of willpower? I say it’s fear. Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of the unknown. It’s a protective mechanism, a way to avoid the discomfort of growth. We need to address that fear.

    • Why? Because there’s too much to learn.
    • Why? Because I don’t know what’s important.
    • Why? Because I haven’t defined my goals.
    • Why? Because I’m afraid of choosing the wrong path.
    • Why? Because I’m afraid of failure.

    See? We’ve gone from “too much information” to “fear of failure.” That’s the real issue. And once you understand the real issue, you can start to craft real solutions. We’ll talk about those solutions next. But first, I want you to try this “five whys” technique on your other challenges. Peel those onions. Get to the core. Tell me what you find.

    Alright, let’s tackle the problems one by one with case scenario. Here we go:

    If you had told me last year that I’d be knee-deep in automation tools and coding scripts, I would have laughed. Me? Writing code? That’s about as likely as me suddenly deciding to become a skydiving instructor.

    Yet, here I am, tangled in the world of workflows, triggers, and integrations, all in an effort to create a simple automated email system for my affiliate marketing journey.

    And let me tell you—it has been a ride.

    Decision Time: Which Tool Should I Use?

    When planning my email marketing setup, I had three choices:

    1️⃣ Use an email service provider (I have a basic membership with Aweber and I’ve tried the 30-day trial with MailerLite) – both Reliable, but costly. I’m thinking of switching at some point)
    2️⃣ Use an automation platform (Make.com) – More flexible, but technical.
    3️⃣ Go full DIY with Google Forms, Sheets, and Gmail (with App Scripts). – Budget-friendly, but requires coding.

    Since my budget is tight, I ruled out the first option. That left me with Make.com and the DIY approach.

    I had no experience with either. But I was ready to learn.

    Make.com – A Lesson in Patience (and Headaches)

    Make.com looked promising at first—a platform designed to automate tasks without needing a single line of code.

    Perfect, right?

    Wrong.

    What I didn’t realize was that automation is like setting up a line of dominoes—each step must be perfectly aligned, or the whole thing falls apart.

    To make it work, I had to understand:

    • What would trigger the next action?
    • In what order should things happen?
    • What details needed to be passed from one step to another?

    Without this clarity, I was just clicking buttons, hoping for magic. Spoiler: There was no magic.

    After hours of trial and error, Make.com and I had a mutual understanding—it wasn’t the right tool for me. Not yet, anyway.

    So, onto Plan C: DIY automation.

    Building My Own Automation (The Hard Way, Apparently)

    The plan was simple:

    • User signs up via an opt-in form.
    • They receive an automatic email with a confirmation message.
    • Inside that email is their freebie (gift or incentive).

    Sounds easy, right?

    It should have been—except nothing worked.

    I found a couple of YouTube tutorials, both promising a simple script to automate the process. Two videos, same goal—but completely different coding methods.

    I tried both. Neither worked.

    By this point, I was frustrated. Was I missing something? Did I copy the code incorrectly? Or was I simply not meant to be a tech person?

    That’s when I remembered—I have ChatGPT.

    ChatGPT to the Rescue

    At this point, I was willing to try anything. So, I pasted my broken code into ChatGPT and asked, “What’s wrong with this?”

    And just like that, my AI coding assistant came through.

    It analyzed the code, pointed out the errors, and suggested small tweaks. I made the changes, tested it, and… it worked.

    After hours of frustration, I finally had a functional email automation.

    What I Learned (Beyond Just Coding)

    This experience wasn’t just about setting up an email system—it was a reminder of something bigger:

    • Technology is frustrating, but persistence pays off.
    • When one method fails, try another.
    • You don’t have to figure everything out alone—ask for help.

    And most importantly:

    • Every step forward—even the small ones—is a win.

    Here’s a detailed step-by-step tutorial for automating a Sign-Up Email Responder using Google Apps Script, Gmail, Google Forms, and Google Sheets. Each step contributes to seamless automation when a user signs up via a form and the data is logged in Google Sheets.

    Plan Overview

    1. Create Google Form
       Use Google Forms to collect user details like name and email.
    2. Link Google Sheet
       Connect the form to a Google Sheet to log submissions.
    3. Write Google Apps Script
       Use Apps Script to:
      • Detect new form submissions.

    I turned to four AI assistants, each with its own unique approach to problem-solving:

    • ChatGPT – The reliable all-rounder, great for structured guidance.
    • Gemini Advanced – The creative wildcard, offering fresh angles.
    • Claude 3.5 Sonnet – The deep thinker, focused on big-picture storytelling.
    • DeepSeek – The analytical strategist, dissecting every tiny detail.

    I fed each AI the same prompt, asking them to help me craft a step-by-step strategic plan for my book series. Then, I compared their responses—analyzing how they structured the process, what insights they provided, and whether their advice felt actionable or vague.

    The result?
